Insurance Surveys
If your insurance provider has requested an out-of-the-water survey, Sharp Marine Surveys is qualified to carry out the necessary inspection and provide the correct report.
What is an insurance survey?
An insurance survey primarily assesses the condition of the hull, but also includes a thorough inspection of the vessel’s critical systems and components.
The key concern for insurers is whether the boat presents any safety risks or potential grounds for a future claim—cosmetic issues are not a focus.

Access to your vessel
Clients will need to arrange a lift-out with their marina or boatyard.
For accurate moisture and thickness readings, clear access beneath the vessel is essential.
If access is limited or the boat is only out of the water for a short time, advance notice allows Gavin to tailor the inspection accordingly.
The ideal time for an insurance survey is while the vessel is still out of the water and on its blocks—this allows any identified issues to be addressed before relaunching.
Preparation before the survey
To enable a thorough inspection, owners should ensure that interior spaces and lockers are free of clutter.
We aim to be flexible and accommodating, but it’s important to note that we are there to survey—not to move gear—so preparation beforehand ensures the best possible service.
