Sharp Marine Surveys

About
With over 45 years of hands-on experience in the marine world, Gavin Sharp is a seasoned yacht and boat surveyor whose passion for life on the water began at an early age. From skippering speedboats as a child to restoring vessels and advising fellow enthusiasts, boating truly runs in his blood.

Qualifications
Gavin is a fully qualified marine surveyor, having earned his Diploma in Yacht & Small Craft Surveying through the only practical training course of its kind in the UK, based in Ipswich.
He offers a wide range of professional surveys for all types of vessels, with a particular focus on detailed, impartial pre-purchase surveys that help clients make informed buying decisions — often saving them thousands.

A proud Associate Member of the International Institute of Marine Surveying (IIMS) and a member of the Marine Survey Associates (formerly British Marine Surveyors Europe), Gavin holds full public liability and professional indemnity insurance.
Equipment
Dedicated to delivering thorough, honest, and reliable service, Gavin uses top-of-the-range diagnostic equipment including Sovereign Quantum and Tramex Skipper moisture meters, colour snake cameras, battery testers, digital ultrasonic thickness gauges, and high-definition imaging tools to assess vessels with precision.

Survey Reports
Survey reports are typically delivered within 12–24 hours in PDF format. Gavin also offers follow-up phone consultations to walk clients through the findings — a personal touch that sets him apart.
Family Values, Professional Standards
Based in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex, Gavin regularly travels across the UK to meet clients where their boats are located.
When he’s not surveying vessels, he’s spending time with his beloved family — his wife, three daughters, two granddaughters, and their loyal Border Terrier, Darcy.
